MCCOOK - First-round action at the Cattle Trail Basketball Tournament in McCook saw five are ateams advance into Friday’s semifinal contests. Both the Maywood-Hayes Center boys and girls teams rolled away to victories as the girls defeated Hitchcock County, 43-27, and the boys rolled past Decatur Community, 68-47.

The Medicine Valley boys’ basketball team started off its season on the right foot with two close wins over RPAC foes. The Raiders began their season Thursday at Southwest where MV claimed a 60-57 win.

Southwest holds first girls wrestling Invite

BARTLEY - At its first-ever all-girls wretsling invite, the Southwest girls wrestling team finished eighth, Hi-Line took 26th and Southern Valley was 27th in a 30-team field Friday at Bartley. The Roughriders medaled three of their four individuals, led by runner-up finishes from Aubrie Seybould at 135 pounds and Madelyn Tryon at 235 pounds.
