Area golf teams began the final week of the regular season with the Cattle Trail Tournament in Curtis Tuesday. Cambridge led area teams with a third-place finish and a score of 350, followed by Southwest (364), Hi-Line (384), Arapahoe (404), Maywood/ Hayes Center (406) and Medicine Valley (431).

CAMBRIDGE - The Maywood/ Hayes Center girls finished tied for second and the Hi-Line boys were third at the Republican Plains Activities Conference Track and Field Meet in Cambridge Friday. Area athletes won nine gold medals, led by a pair of standouts that captured multiple event winners.

CURTIS - While the Arrowhead Meadows Golf Course seemed to get the better of the golfers Thursday, area competitors still found success at the RPAC Golf Meet in Curtis Thursday. Four area athletes medaled, led by Southwest’s Houston Billeter, who shot an 83 to finish runner-up, and Cambridge’s Micah Gerlach, who fired an 84 to take fourth.

ARAPAHOE - While there have been a number of pleasant days for track and field this spring, last Wednesday wasn’t one of them. Still, athletes battled awful winds and found success anyway at the annual Jim Mather Invite in Arapahoe.

CAMBRIDGE - In his final home invite, Southwest’s Houston Billeter tore up his home course Thursday, firing a one-under 71 to take first place by six strokes at the Southwest Invite at Cross Creek Golf Links.

CURTIS - The Southwest boys golf team fired a 365 on a day when they course won more often than not at the Medicine Valley Invite Thursday. Houston Billeter took third with a round of 82 and led the Roughriders to a third-place finish.

ALMA - The Cambridge boys golf team finished second, Southern Valley was fourth and Hi-Line was fifth at the Alma Invite Tuesday. Arapahoe also took tenth in and Medicine Valley was 14th in the 17-team field.

CAMBRIDGE - At a meet wisely delayed from Friday to Monday for weather, track and field athletes shined in the sunshine as the Arapahoe boys captured the team title and the Cambridge girls finished runner-up at the Medicine Valley Invite at Cambridge.

ARAPAHOE - Some of the best weather on the young season produced some of the best scoring thus far as the Cambridge boys golf team fired a 326 to take second and Southwest collectively shot 343 to finish third at the Arapahoe Invite Tuesday.
