COLUMBUS - With just a few holes left in Thursday’s second round of the NSAA Class D State Golf Tournament, Cambridge’s Micah Gerlach had a discussion with his coach, Lyle Calvert, about their strategy for the remaining holes after he’d put his tee shot in a pond off the left of the 15th fairway. Gerlach trailed the leader, Creighton’s Calvin Wilmes, by six strokes and his lead over third place had shrunk from five strokes to two.

Cambridge holds CSO All Star hoops contests

CAMBRIDGE - Recxent grads put their basketball skills on exhibition again Friday as Cambridge hosted the CSO All Star Basketball games. In the girls’ contest, Southwest’s Anastasia Gallegos scored 14 points to help the Team Lanham team to a 62-59 victory over Team Lauhead.
Southern Valley grad Adi Hunt was honored as Team MVP for Team Lauhead at the CSO All-Star game in Cambridge.

KEARNEY - Both the Hi-Line and Southern Valley track and field teams qualified four individuals for the Class C State Meet at the District C Meet at Kearney Catholic last Thursday. Southern Valley’s Adi Hunt finished second in both the 100 and 200 while rolling to first in the 400.

JOHNSON LAKE - District competition came right down to the last stroke Monday as Hi-Line bettered Loomis by one stroke for the team title and Southwest’s Houston Billeter beat out Hi-Line’s Zach Whittaker and Loomis’ Tyson Essex by a single swing for the individual title at the District D-4 Meet Monday. The Hi-Line team of Whittaker, Gavin Tilson, who finished 10th, Collin Shutts, Hudson Weeder and Parker Schutz qualified for State in addition to Billeter and Cambridge’s Micah Gerlach and Medicine Valley’s Tyce Pate, who took fifth and sixth to qualify individually.

BERTRAND - All season long, RPAC athletes have shined on both the track and the field as the conference makes up a great deal of the State’s Class D Top Ten charts. After Wednesday’s Class D District Meet in Bertrand, dozens of those athletes will get a chance to show the State what they’re capable of at this weekend’s State Meet in Omaha.
