UNMC graduates nearly 1,000 students

Events were held in Omaha, Lincoln, Norfolk, Kearney and Scottsbluff. Diplomas and certificates were conferred on nearly 1,000 University of Nebraska Medical Center students during ceremonies held May 8 in Lincoln, Norfolk and Kearney and May 10 in Omaha and Scottsbluff.

NCTA Class of 2025 Future Ag Leaders

Curtis, NE – The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture (NCTA) celebrated the graduation of the class of 2025, with 83 students receiving diplomas or certificates on May 8. These included December, May, and August graduates. Of the 83 graduates, 67 proudly walked across the Curtis Community Center stage at the commencement ceremony, while many others were already employed or unable to attend.

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States and Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) reminds residents that it is also one of the most preventable cancers. There are several types of skin cancer, with melanoma being the most dangerous. Melanoma of the skin is the fifth most common cancer in Nebraska and there are more cases found here compared to overall US rates.

Cambridge City Council approves hiring Roy Hoelscher for park maintenance

The Cambridge City Council met on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. Council member Nora McGowen was absent from the meeting. After the Pledge of Allegiance and the Open Meeting Law announcement, the Council approved the Consent Agenda which included approval of the May 5, 2025, minutes, approval of the claims, approval of the Park Board and Library Board Meeting Minutes as well as the Planning Commission minutes from the May 14, 2025 meeting. The Consent Agenda also included an ambulance account write-off for $5,710.24, a utility billing account write-off for $214.96, and closed the General Ledger Golf Account and transferred $112.95 to the General Fund.

Chadron State College announces Presiden’ts and Dean’s List

CHADRON, Neb. (May 19, 2025) – Chadron State College has announced the names of students who qualified for the President’s List for the Spring 2025 semester. To be eligible, students must have completed at least 12 credit hours of coursework, be pursuing their first bachelor’s degree, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 4.0, and have no incomplete grades. These area students were recognized on the President’s List, by hometown: Beaver City, Neb. - Alivia Taylor Indianola, Neb. -Cayleigh McConville McCook, Neb. - Shelbi Hazlitt, Megan Hodgson, Danielle Mowry, Samantha Rodewald, Rachel Rydgren Harper Stevens.
