More than 200 University of Nebraska-Lincoln students have been named to the Deans’ Commendation List for the fall semester of the 202425 academic year. The Commendation List recognizes students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, College of Arts and Sciences and/ or College of Journalism and Mass Communications who met or exceeded a specified grade-point average and carried six to 11 graded semester hours.

Arapahoe School District to acquuire 14-Passenger Bus

ARAPAHOE – During the regular school board meeting on February 10, the board approved the purchase of a 14-passenger bus from Nebraska Central Equipment. Other action items included approval of the ESU 11 Master Service Agreement for 20252026 and going forward with hiring an elementary certified staff member to serve as a “Team Teacher” at multiple grade levels for the 2025-2026 school year.

Geography graduate school “pipeline”

SEWARD, NE (02/11/2025) The Academic Excellence and Innovation Fund recently awarded Concordia Professor of Geography Dr. Joel Helmer a grant for $4,000 to build a graduate school “pipeline” between Concordia Nebraska and South Dakota State University for prospective graduate students in the field of geography. This pipeline would encourage students to pursue graduate-level work in geography, including SDSU’s MA in Geography, MS in Geographic Information Sciences, and Geographic Information Sciences specialization.

Students in kindergarten through 12th grade have until the end of the month to submit entries for the Nebraska Fish Art Contest. The 2025 contest, sponsored by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Wildlife Forever and Bass Pro Shops, is accepting entries through Feb.

Casie Helms, Arapahoe-Holbrook Public School Backpack Program Director, accepts a $2100 donation on February 3rd from Mark Stagemeyer, Justin Stagemeyer, Jared Shafer, Paige Hyke, and Laura Frink of MNB Insurance Services, Inc., and from Erin Shafer and Kate Warner of MNB Realty, LLC to go towards the school’s Backpack Program. Children signed up for the Backpack Program are provided with nutritious and easy-to-prepare food and snacks when other resources may not be available, such as weekends and school vacations.

Cambridge City Council discuss Nuisance Abatement Professional Service Agreement

Cambridge City Council met in regular session on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. Council member Nora McGowen entered the meeting at 6:33 p.m. After the Pledge of Allegiance and the Open Meeting Law announcement, the council approved the Consent Agenda items, which included approval of the minutes from the January 20, 2025 meeting, the claims, and the Park Board minutes from December 10, 2025. The Consent Agenda also included the Cambridge EMS Minutes from November 25, 2024, and the Library Board Minutes from January 16, 2025.
