During the Arapahoe-Holbrook School Board meeting on Monday, May 13, finding solutions to the district’s financial situation was a recurring point of discussion.

Curtis Council moves forward on $3.9 million pool project

The Curtis City Council granted permission to begin fundraising for a new pool. After multiple meetings, including two public input meetings, the Curtis pool committee requested that the city council approve moving forward with option 5, an estimated $3.9 million investment.

Turnout for the primary election held Tuesday was about a quarter of registered voters in the area. In local contested races, Kent Lehmann advanced with the Republican nomination in the Frontier County Commissioner’s race for the District 1 seat, defeating Doug Houser and Randy Sheffield.

The Arapahoe City Council met on Monday, May 7 at 7:30 pm for their regular meeting immediately following a CRA meeting. There was some brief discussion on the pine needle mulch that has been ordered for the new planters downtown.

Southern Valley looking at roof and flooring repairs The Southern Valley Board of Education met for their regular meeting on Monday, May 13 at 7:30 pm. The board heard from Alyson Adams, 2024 graduate and art student who is a congressional art contest winner. She attended the meeting with her grandparents. Adams spoke to the board saying her portrait drawing of her grandparents won first place and she gets to go to Washington DC. The plane ticket is paid for, but she would like help with hotel costs. Superintendent Bryce Jorgenson said the board has done this for other contest winners in the past. Jorgenson will make the hotel reservation at a place closer to the capital. The board congratulated Adams.

Ball field lights discussed at oxford City Council Board meeting

There was some discussion about the state of the lights at the baseball field during the Monday, May 13 meeting of the Oxford Board of Trustees. Mike Quinn was in attendance and said he was there “to address the condition, the responsibility and the ownership and how we are going to get something done”.
