During the busy holiday season, don’t forget to purchase Nebraska Game and Parks Commission permits for the upcoming year. The 2024 annual hunt (small game), fishing, fur harvest and state park entry permits are now available online, at district offices and parks near you.

By Erin Laborie, Livestock Systems Extension Educator The invasion of Eastern red cedar has become a signifi cant threat to pasture and rangeland acres in Nebraska. Eastern red cedar not only reduces forage production but also alters the species composition of pastures and results in lower livestock returns.

The Thanksgiving snow didn’t damper very many holiday plans. The beautiful snow stayed where it fell and gave us an awesome cover that was perfect for sledding and snowballing.

Cambridge City Council renews contract with Nebraska Department of Transportation Cambridge City Council met on Monday, November 2023, at 6:30 p.m. All Council members were present for the meeting. After the Pledge of Allegiance, Council approved the Consent Agenda which included the minutes from the November 6, 2023 meeting, the Claims report, The Citizen Advisory Board Appointment of Cassidy Vontz, the approval of Mike Tomlin on the Waypoint Bank Credit Card, the Housing Authority Board Appointments of Hayden Ekberg and Michelle Raburn, The Planning Commission meeting Minutes of November 8, 2023, the Cemetary Advisory Board Minutes of October 19, 2023, and the Cambridge Park Board Minutes of October 10, 2023.

Supporting college students takes on many forms within the University of Nebraska system, and food security is a growing priority on all campuses. This year, the University of Nebraska Foundation is channeling the funds they typically spend on mailing holiday greetings to support the four campus food pantries.

McCook Community College will host Santa’s Workshop on December 4 in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Santa’s annual workshop is free and open to the public.

Small Town Christmas is being held on Friday, December 1, 2023 with Business ‘open house’ being held 1- 4 p.m. There will be children events at the Library, firetruck rides and Santa’s arrival at the Firehall from 4-6 p.m.

Hunters and landowners are encouraged to offer their feedback on big game issues during the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s public information meetings this winter. These meetings, which are scheduled in each Game and Parks district, begin at 6:30 p.m.

AHPS to offer FREE SCHOOL MEALS starting Dec 1, 2023! With changes in requirements, our district now qualifies to offer FREE meals to all students for the remainder of the school year (similar to during COVID). Refunds for those with $ in accounts will be made available soon.

Eustis-Farnam school kicked off a new community building activity that they are calling “Herds.” Students and staff were mixed into various groupings with a good mix of students grades K-12. They then worked on creating water color snowflakes to decorate the halls for winter! These groupings will be the same for all future Herd activities, so students get the chance to know and work with others that they don’t generally spend time with. Fun was had, connections were made, and now we have some great art to make our school festive!”
