Public Hearing October 19 on Amendments to Regulations

October 5, 2022 (Lincoln, Neb.) — The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, October 19, concerning amendments to regulations. The hearing will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, at NDOT’s Central Headquarters Building, Room 103, 1500 Highway 2, in Lincoln.

Furnas County GOP will be meeting Tuesday, October 18

The Furnas County GOP will be meeting at the Cambridge Community Center in Cambridge on Tuesday October 18th. Members of the Republican Party from Furnas and surrounding counties are welcome to enjoy a social time at 6:30 pm to be followed by the meeting beginning at 7:00 pm.

Cambridge School Board Discuss Upcoming Superintendent Search

Cambridge School Board met in regular session on Monday, September 10, 2022. All Board members were present. Virgil Banzhaf was a guest at the meeting. Council approved the agenda. During the Treasurer’s Report, Superintendent Greg Shepard informed the Board that Board Secretary Marisa Burke had shared different reports containing more information than previous reports. Shepard also said that it looks like the school will be receiving over $100,000 in valuation increases, but there is a possibility that state aid may go down. More information about that will be available soon. Shepard said “We are sitting really good. We will be able to ride out any waves that may come our way.”

SV Board Meeting

The Southern Valley Board of Education met for their regular meeting on Monday, October 10 at 8 pm. There was an open hearing for the committee on American Civics prior to the regular meeting. The hearing is required biannually to take in public concerns or comments on what is taught at the school in that area. There was no public comment.

Nebraska Pride Sweet Adelines International to perform in Arapahoe

Nebraska Pride Sweet Adelines International once again presents the annual show, “Music, the Spice of Life”. Under the direction of Connie Witt from Kearney, the chorus will bring the best of barbershop style a cappella harmony to the stage. Nebraska Pride Chorus represents central Nebraska with members all the way from McCook and North Platte in the west to Hastings in the east and eight communities in between. The chorus meets weekly in Lexington and perform throughout the year for different organizations and churches. The mission of Sweet Adelines is to promote harmonious singing through education and performance.

Arapahoe Students to Honor Vets

ARAPAHOE - Several subcommittees met prior to the regular Arapahoe-Holbrook School Board meeting on October 10, 2022. Members of the Transportation Committee reported that since the lease contract for school buses ends in June 2024, it is important for the board to make a decision within the next several months.

Commissioners approve changes

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission approved recommendations for 2023 wild turkey hunting seasons at its Aug. 31 meeting at Fort Robinson State Park near Crawford. The changes to orders for the 2023 turkey season are: Limit all hunters to two spring permits; during the meeting, commissioners amended the recommendation to allow nonresidents up to two permits.
