Life Chain to be held in Indianola

Body
On Sunday, October 2nd, a Life Chain will be formed in Indianola along Highway 6 & 34 by the City Park from 2:00 until 3:00. Life Chain is a peaceful and prayerful public witness of pro-life individuals standing for 60 minutes, praying for our nation and for an end to abortion. It is a visual statement of solidarity by the Christian community that abortion kills children and that the Church supports the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception until natural death. Those of all faiths and of all ages are encouraged to stand with thousands of Pro-life individuals throughout the USA and Canada in honor of millions of babies whose lives have been lost to abortion. Anyone unable to stand is welcome to bring a chair.

Samuel Phenice – Civil War Veteran

Body
By Steve Sturtevant Recently, I visited the grave of Civil War Veteran Samuel Phenice who is buried in the small cemetery at the community of Precept, Nebraska which is south of Beaver City a few miles. According to Eula Brown, who found his story in an early Times Tribune article, he fought in the Civil War and was wounded in the Battle of the Wilderness. Later he was assigned to examine soldier’s passes to Ford’s Theatre and was on duty there the evening of April 14, 1865, the night that President Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth. Let me quote Phenice in the account of the night.
