Cambridge Public School to hold Veteran’s Day program

Cambridge Public Schools will hold its annual Veteran's Day program on November 11 at 10 a.m. at the high school gymnasium. There will also be a free breakfast for all veterans and senior citizens from 8:30-9:30 a.m. that day in the school cafeteria.

indianola Council approves raise in reconnect fees

INDIANOLA - The Indianola City Council held a regular monthly meeting a week late Monday and approved a raise in fees for the reconnection of utilities. Clerk Stephanie Blau said that the City had even more disconnects than usual this month, but that those residents have little issue in paying the fees immediately.

Southwest High School hosted their 3rd Annual College & Career Fair

Southwest High School hosted their 3rd annual college and career fair on Wednesday, October 20th. Several businesses from the Southwest Nebraska area were able to participate. Business professionals conducted mock interviews with the seniors from Southwest High School and they hosted 20 college representatives as well. Several area schools were able to bring students to participate. Students heard about careers and employment opportunities in our area. Participating businesses and individuals were River View Vet Service, Pinpoint Communications, Inc., United States Army, AKRS Equipment Solutions, AFLAC, YMCA of McCook, Tri Valley Health System, Hometown Family Radio, Tyler Esch, Valmont, Artistic Cabinetry, Nebraska Army National Guard, The Maschhoffs, Nebraska Corn Processing, Mary Dueland, Colfer, Wood, Lyons, & Wood Law Office, Walmart, Ambience Counseling, United States Marine Corps and Nebraska State Patrol.

LINCOLN, Nebraska – Students and instructors from 39 high schools met at the Bertrand Community Building to compete in State Land Judging Oct. 20. The Tri-Basin Natural Resources District (NRD) partnered with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to host the annual competition.

Last Year’s Queen and King Lanie Overton and Matt Van Pelt, King Jacob Kerns, Queen Kassidy Wilcox, 1st Attendant Brie Shald, 2nd Attendant Jazmine Walz, Princess Bailey Oltmer, Prince Nathan Lytle; Front - Crown Bearers Rhett Salas and Colbi Herrman.

A New Legislative District & A New State Senator

Nebraska State Senators met in special session during September to hammer out the details of redistricting Congressional, Legislative, Supreme Court, State Board of Education, and other political boundaries. Then, on September 30, with the stroke of a pen, residents of Furnas, Harlan, and Red Willow counties became residents of Dist. 38 when Gov. Pete Ricketts signed LB 3 into law. Since there was an emergency clause attached to the measure, the change went into effect immediately.

Nebraska Pride Chorus of Sweet Adelines International once again presented its annual show. It is “The 4Ever Fab 50’s” featuring great music from the 50’s. (Left Photo) Ida Soncksen and Erlene Davis of Arapahoe dress the part for the 50’s show put on by the Sweet Adelines. ‘Tonal Chaos’ performed during the concert held at the Arapahoe school on Saturday. It was a fun program for all attendees.
