Sunday night brought a mixed bag of weather. Wind, hail, more wind - all not so good, and rain. The rain was mostly good but some of it came really fast. Here on the hill, we received about .30 when the first blow came through then got another .45 in a gentle rain through the night. Just what my patch on newly planted grass needed! And the wheat appreciated it too. Speaking of the wheat, it’s pretty much on schedule. The head is in the boot.

BEAVER CITY – Mayor Leighton Schmidt presided over the regular city council meeting on Monday, May 3, 2021 with all six council members—Roger Powell, Russell Rickert, Quinn Barnas, Kevin Harper, Becky Robinson, and Chris Joppa—present. Others in attendance were Teresa Youngquist (Clerk), Jackie Mayberry (Deputy Clerk), Grant Jorgensen (Utility Superintendent), Aubree Warner (Pool Manager), Doug Brown (Sheriff), Jim Cave (Planning Committee Chairman), Nathan Mustion (Mousel, Brooks, Schneider & Mustion Law Firm), Kathy McConnell, and Guyla Mills (Valley Voice).

Cambridge Council approves waiver resolution

CAMBRIDGE - The Cambridge City Council met for a brief meeting Monday to approve a waiver resolution for ordinance violations and to grant an abandoned vehicle to the fire department for training purposes.

The Southern Valley Journalism team returned from state competition with a Class C NSAA State Journalism runner-up trophy for the second year in a row. They competed for the on site portion of the championship on Monday, April 26 . Southern Valley qualified 19 students for the state championship and brought home 58 NSAA medals, the most ever for Southern Valley in a single year under the direction of journalism advisor Mrs. Meredith McQuay. She has now been the advisor for 16 years.

Southwest’s Holdcroft wins National Academic Decathlon Award

Julia Holdcroft is one of two national recipients of the 2021 Kristen Caperton Inspiration Award through Academic Decathlon. This award is presented to Academic Decathlon student decathletes who demonstrate a high degree of dedication, strength of character, team leadership, perseverance and commitment while overcoming significant obstacles or unusual circumstances to participate in the United States Academic Decathlon.
