Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) invites everyone to learn about wellness programs in their community or workplace during National Wellness Month in August. Wellness programs often include physical activity, nutrition, and mental health support which increase long-term quality of life.

NCTA graduate named Proteus Farmworker of the Year

Morel Jurado of Imperial, a 2024 graduate, has been honored with the Proteus Farmworker of the Year Award during the National Farmworker Appreciation Day Luncheon in Hastings. 

Jurado, who earned an associate’s degree in Agribusiness Management, credits both NCTA and Proteus for helping him achieve his educational and career goals. 

“Proteus helped me with fi nancial assistance to attend college. As a first-generation student, that support meant everything.

ARAPAHOE – The Arapahoe City Council held their bi-monthly meeting on August 5, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. Connie Hoefs appeared before the council on behalf of the Mission Mall and addressed maintenance issues with the city-owned building.

Malleck Historic Buildings Dedicated During Indianola’s Old Settler’s Day

INDIANOLA-Over 100 people attended the Indianola Historical Society’s meeting on Saturday afternoon in the old Rocket Inn as part of the 152-year-old town’s annual Old Settlers Day celebration. Attendees were shown a video presentation that chronicled moving the historic District 27 schoolhouse and blacksmith shop from the Malleck farm into Indianola.
