SOUTHERN VALLEY The Southern Valley basketball teams each split games last week, falling on the road at Ravenna before returning home for victories over Superior. At Ravenna Thursday, the Southern Valley girls struggled in the middle quarters and fell into a 20-point hole that a big fourth quarter wasn’t enough to overcome in a 50-41 loss.

PLEASANTON - With four games each in the past week, the Cambridge basketball teams each managed a single win. The Cambridge girls tookdown Loomis on the road last Tuesday, 46-38, to reach 4-1 this season before dropping a home game with Cozad Thursday, then losing both ends of the Pleasanton Holiday Tournament Monday and Tuesday.

CAMBRIDGE - Three local teams totaled up 13 individual medals and Cambridge again finished tournament runner-up at the Fran Jorgensen Invite in Cambridge Saturday. The tournament field included 20 teams as Minden ran away with the team title, scoring 195 points, while the Trojans scored 165 points to secure second.

Southwest girls hold off Arapahoe

BARTLEY - The Southwest girls basketball team did just enough to hold onto a lead and hold off a late charge from visiting Arapahoe Friday, earning their fourth win of the season, 44-33. The Roughriders led throughout the contest and leaned on their defense and built a 34-20 lead to the fourth.

Arapahoe boys win rematch

BARTLEY - In a rematch from the first round of the Cattle Trail Tournament, Arapahoe traveled to Bartley Friday for a regular season bout with Southwest. And in similar fashion to the first meeting, the Warriors took control in the middle quarters, then held off a late Roughriders rally for a 57-49 victory.

MCCOOK - The Southwest girls basketball team rolled through the semifinals of the Cattle Trail Tournament and earned a rematch with Maywood-Hayes Center in the final saturday. The Roughriders fell into a big hole but fought back before falling 48-35 to finish tournament runner-up.
