BARTLEY - In a rematch from the first round of the Cattle Trail Tournament, Arapahoe traveled to Bartley Friday for a regular season bout with Southwest. And in similar fashion to the first meeting, the Warriors took control in the middle quarters, then held off a late Roughriders rally for a 57-49 victory.

MCCOOK - The Southwest girls basketball team rolled through the semifinals of the Cattle Trail Tournament and earned a rematch with Maywood-Hayes Center in the final saturday. The Roughriders fell into a big hole but fought back before falling 48-35 to finish tournament runner-up.

ARAPAHOE - Both the Arapahoe girls and boys bowling teams took victories over Southern Valley Friday in a home duel for the Warriors. The Arapahoe girls dropped single games in rounds one and two, but swept the remainder of the points in a 19-2 victory.

SOUTHERN VALLEY - The Southern Valley wrestling team had two individual champions and finished eighth at its home invite Friday while visiting Arapahoe had three individual medaluists and took ninth. Both Braxton Hammond (120) and Cole Broeker (152) took individual titles for the Eagles, who finished with 69 team points for the tournament.

MCCOOK - Following a first round showdown between the Arapahoe and Southwest boys basketball teams, the two teams finished in consecutive order at the tournament as the Warriors dropped contests to Dundy County-Stratton and Hitchcock County to finish fourth and Southwest defeated Medicine Valley and Wauneta- Palisade to finish fifth.

CAMBRIDGE - In a marathon of a game, the Cambridge girls basketball team needed three overtimes to beat South Loup at home, 62-54, Friday. A defensive contest went to overtime tied at 36, then each team scored four in the first overtime to force a second.

OVERTON - With a strong fourth quarter, the Southern Valley girls baksetball team left Overton with a 45-36 victory Saturday, improving to 3-1 this season. A slugfest had ensued early as Southern Valley led 5-4 after a quarter, but the visiting Eagles broke open a lead with an 18-point second quarter to lead 23-15 at the half.

Hi-Line drops pair of heartbreakers

PLEASANTON - The Hi-Line boys basketball team dropped a pair of close losses last week, falling to Maxwell 55-51 Tuesday and 79-74 in overtime to Pleasanton Friday. The Bulls scored 43 points in the second half to overcome a 10-point deficit and force overtime against the Bulldogs Friday, but were outscored 11-6 in the extra session to fall to Pleasanton.
The Bulls tie up a rebound in the paint.
