MINDEN - With a late surge, celebrated by the bench pictured above, the Southern Valley boys basketball team took down Bruning-Davenport-Shickley, 50-44, in Monday’s district final to clinch a trip back to the Class D1 State Tournament, where the Eagles were Runner-up in 2020. The Southern Valley cheer squad

The Southern Valley cheer squad participated in the State Cheer Competition last weekend in Class C-2. The Eagles placed 4th out of 10 squads in the “Non-Tumbling” division and 4th of 8 in the “Game Day” division. Southern Valley cheerleaders include Graysen Langdale (12), Makayla Schoen (12), Brianna Russell (11), Elizabeth Meyers (11), Aubrey Brown (11), Ashlyn McAtee (11), Brenna Balderston (9), and Laurel Stalder (9).

Cambridge takes rubber-match with Arapahoe

AMHERST - The postseason opener for the Arapahoe and Cambridge boys basketball teams was a rubber match between the two squads in the semifinals of the Subdistrict C2-10 Tournament in Amherst Tuesday.

Southwest falls to DCS in Subdistrict final

CAMBRIDGE - The Southwest girls basketball team saw its season come to a close Thursday in the Subdistrict finals as top-seeded Dundy County-Stratton dominated the fourth quarter to take down the Roughriders, 46-39, and advance to the district finals.

Hi-Line boys’ season ends at Subdistricts

ELM CREEK - The HiLine boys basketball team saw its season come to an end Monday at the Subdistrict Tournament. The fifth-seeded Bulls were able to score, but couldn’t get enough stops to contend with fourth-seeded Axtell as the Wildcats outscored Hi-Line in every quarter and left with a 76-56 victory.

Soaring Through the End of Regular Season

The Southern Valley Eagles (15-4) took on the Axtell Wildcats (8-12) in their last regular season game on Friday night. The Eagles defeated the Wildcats 51 to 31 on the Wildcat’s home court.

Schutz claims State Championship

OMAHA - Leading up to the Class D State Wrestling Championships, Hi-Line senior Conner Schutz had been absolutely dominant on the mat. With a spotless 29-0 record, he had pinned all but two opponents and hadn’t been pushed even three minutes deep into a single match.
Hi-Line’s Cornier Schutz pinned his way to a State Championship at 170 pounds last week.

OMAHA - Southwest Wrestling Coach Jay Helberg said he wasn’t caught up watching the team standings as his eight wrestlers took the mat at the Class D State Tournament in Omaha last week. But at one point in the meet, a coaching friend came up to him and asked him how the Roughriders were doing.
