LINCOLN - Perhaps the best season in over 20 years for Southwest volleyball ended Saturday with a fourth-place finish at the Class D1 State Volleyball Tournament. The Roughriders dropped their third-place game to Bruning-Davenport-Shickley Saturday afternoon, capping a 34-2 season that set a new school record for wins and reached 34-straight victories before ending with back-toback defeats.

LINCOLN - Momentum is as much a part of volleyball as serving, passing, attacking and blocking. For Cambridge in its Class D1 State Volleyball Tournament opener last Thursday, momentum proved elusive in a straight-sets defeat to fifth-seeded Exeter-Milligan/ Friend.

LINCOLN - Playing in the State Semifinals for the first time in over a decade, the Southwest volleyball team flexed its muscle early, but fifth-seeded Exeter-Milligan/ Friend leaned on its superstar for an upset for the secondconsecutive day.

NORTH PLATTE Three-hundred-sixty-six days - one leap year - to the day after last year’s first-round State Tournament loss, the Southwest volleyball team clinched a berth back to State to erase that memory. The Roughriders have waited a year for this and now, they’ll have their chance.

CAMBRIDGE - District finals are now a habit for Cambridge volleyball, but this year presented an opportunity the Trojans had been waiting for. Playing in their seventhconsecutive district final, the Cambridge volleyball team finally got an opportunity to play a final at home.
