HERSHEY - A fourthquarter surge wasn’t enough to push the Hi-Line boys basketball team past Hershey in the Subdistrict C2-11 Final Thursday. The top-seeded Panthers hedl the Bulls in check through three quarters, then leaned on the lead they had built to take a 50-40 victory over Hi-Line, ending the Bulls’ season at 7-15.

Trojans unable to complete comeback in sub title loss

HAYES CENTER - In the Subdistrict D1-11 Championship Thursday, top-seeded Maywood-Hayes Center flexed its muscle and threatened to run second-seeded Cambridge off the floor early. The Wolves, who had defeated the Trojans 63-32 in late December, jumped out to a 16-7 lead after a quarter and stretched the lead to 11 early in the second.

Arapahoe pushes Alma to the brink, falls in subdistrict final

ALMA - For better than three quarters Thursday night, second-seeded Arapahoe was checking all the boxes to pull off an upset of top-seeded Alma and claim the Subdistrict D1-10 Championship. The Warriors, which had lost to Alma 59-39 two weeks earlier, jumped out to an early lead, battled on the boards, limited turnovers and answered each and every run the Cardinals made.

Six area athletes medal at State Wrestling Tournament

OMAHA - Six area athletes earned medals and two local teams finished in the top 20 of Class D at the NSAA State Wrestling Championships in Omaha last weekend. Southern Valley scored 43 points to take 17th place and had all three of its qualifiers medal, led by a thrid-place finish from 113-pound Braxton Hammond.

Bulls, Eagles advance to subdistrict finals

Both the Hi-Line and Southern Valley boys basketball teams kept their seasons alive with clutch performances late Tuesday at their respective subdistrict tournaments. Fourth-seeded Southern Valley, which pulled away from a tight game at halftime in the first round Monday to post a 60-39 win over fifthseeded Wilcox-Hildreth, held off top-seeded Bertrand Tuesday for a 52-49 win.
