Eagles take down Alma, South Loup

SOUTHERN VALLEY With three challenging home contests last week, the Southern Valley girls basketball team took two of three and improved to 16-3 on the season. The Eagles scuffled Monday in a contest that Coach Richard McDonald said the team wasn’t ready for, falling 49-29, but bounced back with wins over Alma, 57-47, and South Loup, 49-33, to regain their winning ways.

ARAPAHOE - On a night where both teams struggled to make shots, the Southern Valley boys basketball team rode its defense and free throw shooting to a 47-41 victory at Arapahoe Monday. The Eagles shot just 33 percent from the field, but got to the line 20 times, making 14 and generating enough scoring to hold off Arapahoe.

Southwest girls finish third at RPAC Tournament

MCCOOK - The Southwest girls basketball team won its seventh game in eight tries with a 51-38 victory over Wauneta- Palisade in Saturday’s RPAC Tournament third-place contest. The Roughriders started slow and trailed 9-6 after a quarter, but the offense heated up from there and Southwest pulled away.

Bulls turned back in FKC quarterfinals

AMHERST - The Hi-Line boys basketball team halted a three-game losing skid with a comeback win in the first round of the FKC Tournament Saturday. The Bulls erased a 13-point half deficit to turn back Overton by a bucket, 6765, and advance to the conference quarterfinals where they were downed by top-seeded Amherst, 75-48.

ARAPAHOE - Four local teams finsihed in the top seven at the Darrell Barnes Invite in Arapahoe Saturday. Cambridge finished runner- up to Hitchcock County by two points, 153-151, and Southern Valley took third with 107 points.
