CAMBRIDGE - It was a big weekend for youth sports in Cambridge as the Cambridge Youth Sports Commission held its annual basketball tournament, which drew 41 teams, Saturday before the Cambridge Wrestling Club held its tournament, which drew nearly 35o wrestlers, on Sunday.

Southern Valley’s Season Ends After a Long Week on the Road

The Lady Eagles (9-10) hit the road on Tuesday to take on Gibbon Buffaloes (2-18). The Eagles jumped out with a quick start in the first half and went into the half up by 27-15. The Buffaloes held fast with SV in the second half with the help of 3 point shooting by Gibbon Sr. Samantha Walker. However, the deficit was too large to overcome. Freshman Ann Bose helped secure the Eagle win with 28 points, 9 total rebounds, 8 deflections, and 7 steals. Kynlee Marquez added 7 points while both Krista Best and Brianna Quinn added 5 to the total to help the Eagles win 52 to 36.

CAMBRIDGE - With a pair of down-to-the-wire games Tuesday night, the Subdistrict D1-11 Tournament in Cambridge got off to a great start with the final to come on Thursday. Dundy County-Stratton was able to hold off a gallant rally from Arapahoe in posting a 48-46 win in the opener.

Arapahoe puts a wrap on first bowling season

A dream over 20 years in the making sends two local students to state bowling. This year for the first time the NSAA made bowling a varsity team sport. In previous years bowling was only a club sport. Now students can choose to participate on the team just as they would basketball or wrestling.

Southwest wins district title at D2

Southwest earned a team title while advancing eight wrestlers from the D-2 District meet hosted at Elkhorn Valley Saturday. The team earned 120 points for the District title. The top four wrestlers in each bracket advance to the State Meet hosted in Omaha. Southwest grapplers competing in Omaha include sophomore Carter VanPelt, junior Jacob Kerns, senior Garrett Latimer, sophomore Tyler Ellis, senior Matt VanPelt, senior Brett Tryon, sophomore Clayton Hardy and senior Bryson Shoemaker.

Arapahoe finishes runner-up at District D1

Arapahoe earned a runnerup finish at the Class D-1 Districts while sending six wrestlers to the State Tournament this week. Freshman Wayne Lee, 113, advanced in fourth place; senior Isaac Goshert, 120, was second; junior Tristian White, 145, third; junior Wyatt Jenkins, 160, first; senior Jordan Smith, 170, second; and junior Levi Kerner, 285, first.
