Cambridge, Hi-Line and Southern Valley competed at the D-3 District meet hosted at Central Valley Saturday, Feb. 13. The top four finishers from each bracket punch their tickets to the State meet this week. Southern Valley is advancing four grapplers with Cambridge sending two and Hi-Line, one, to the State meet.

The Eagles (14-3) took on Gibbon (10-5) on Tuesday in a tight battle that resulted in a 3 point loss for the Eagles in overtime. The game was down to the wire for the entire 5 quarters. The Buffaloes eked out the lead at halftime 26 to 25. Both teams had a low scoring 3rd quarter with 9 points each. Southern Valley tied it up with a last minute layup by Brody Yant at the end of the 4th quarter. The Eagles were outscored in overtime by 3 for a 54-57 total. The Eagles were led by senior Clayton Berry with 24 points and 9 rebounds. Carter Bose added an additional 15 points, ripped down an impressive 17 total rebounds, and had 5 assists. Colton Burgeson added 7 points and 4 assists to the totals.

Cambridge boys blow past Alma

ALMA - By dictating the game with offense, the Cambridge boys basketball team rolled to a 63-38 victory at Alma Friday. The Trojans shot 43 percent from the field and knocked down six threes as they built a comfortable lead at halftime, blew the game open in the third quarter, then coasted to the finish in a 25-point victory.

BERTRAND - The Arapahoe boys basketball team played defense well enough to win at Bertrand Friday. But they still needed to score enough to make that effort stand up and they were unable to do so as the Vikings took a slugfest 33-22.

The Southwest boys fell to Wallace, 55-39, on Tuesday, Feb. 9, and to Axtell, 59-33, on Friday, Feb. 12. The final regular season game for the boy s will be against Maywood/Hayes Center on Friday, Feb. 19.

Arapahoe rolls away from Cambridge for victory

CAMBRIDGE - After the Cambridge boys basketball team got off to a strong start Tuesday, Arapahoe controlled the remainder of the contest and rolled away for a 49-37 victory. The Trojans put up 13 points in the opening quarter as Derek Trompke scored eight in the first eight minutes and helped the Trojans to a 13-11 lead.

State Wrestling has different scheduled in 2021

If you’re looking forward to watching the finals of the next week’s State Wrestling Tournament, be advised that local wrestlers might be on television at a different time this year. The Nebraska State Activities Association has amended its schedule for this year’s State Wrestling Tournament in Omaha as classes A and D will complete their tournament next Wednesday and Thursday.
