Dear Community Members, Below is an overview of services and programs available this month. Please feel free to share this information and help us promote our county services.
Agriculture is the heart and soul of what we do in Nebraska. Family farms and ranches are the backbone of our communities. But times in farm country are tough. Corn and soybean prices are low, and input prices are high. The economic challenges of the last several years have placed stress on our farm families.
MAYWOOD - A lot can change in 10 weeks. Thursday’s subdistrict championship between topseeded Maywood/Hayes Center and third-seeded Southwest was a rematch from the first weekend of the season when the Wolves routed the Roughriders 84-46.
Orleans resident and Arapahoe high school graduate Janell Anderson Ehrke has officially filed her candidacy for the District 38 seat in the Nebraska Legislature, becoming the fifth candidate to replace term-limited Senator Dave Murman.
SHELTON - Following a heartbreaking finish in their Subdistrict opener last Tuesday, the Arapahoe girls basketball team had to sit and wait. Like a lot of bubble teams come Selection Sunday, the Warriors had no control over whether or not their season would continue.
OMAHA - The Girls State Wrestling Tournament has been all too familiar for Southwest’s Madelyn Tryon. The senior had qualified all four years of high school, medaling sixth both her sophomore and junior seasons.
Tax filing season is here, and Nebraska families are once again sorting through W-2s, logging into tax software, and bracing for the familiar anxiety of figuring out what they owe. It’s never a fun process — but this year, there’s genuinely good news: because of the Working Families Tax Cuts, which I voted for last summer, you will likely keep more money in your pocket than you did last year.
After the first two nights of Subdistrict action, three area teams won opportunities to compete for the Subdistrict championship on Thursday. At the Subdistrict D2-8 tournament, second-seeded Medicine Valley (14-9) took care of business Tuesday and dismissed third-seeded Sandhills/ Thedford, 51-36, to advance to Thursday’s title game against top-seeded Sumner-Eddyville-Miller(14-8), which ousted Brady, 62-32, on Tuesday.
Sharon Lightle is the co-chairman of the Tri Valley Auxiliary Thrift Store and very deserving of this honor. Sharon has a wonderful personality and excellent skills in her role as manager.
