Four Elwood High wrestlers earned hardware at the Southern Valley Invite held last Friday. Walter Flint brought home a first place medal in the 126 lb. class, while Cole Remmenga finished second in the 120 division. Thad Reiman at 152 and Mitchell Kubert at 160 both earned third place medals.

The Gosper County Senior Center will be hosting their Old Fashioned Christmas on Dec. 15 t,h with rolls and coffee at 9 a.m. and a pancake supper from 5-7 p.m. Noon lunch will be pot roast and open to the public. We will have our annual cookie boxes available from 1:00-7:00 at the bake sale.

The line for rides in the horse and buggy guided by Virgil Meyer of Gothenburg was always long, as a favorite of young and old alike. The pony put in a lot of miles at the Thursday evening Old Fashion Christmas, going well into the dark and past quitting time so everyone could ride.

The Patriotic Christmas Tree at J/J’s Electric, is decorated entirely in red, white and blue. Jerry Ostendorf, owner of J/Js, invites anyone in the community or area to add their patriotic ribbons or decorations to the tree in honor of those who serve our country in one way or another against terroristic attacks.

Funeral services for longtime Elwood Bulletin publisher, Mervin Deck, were held on December 7 th . In 1948, his dream of owning his own newspaper came true when he and his wife, Mary, with the support of family, purchased the Elwood Bulletin. The published the paper from 1948 to 1978, when they sold the business and retired.

Renee Bossung can call on many years of experience as she opens a new business in Elwood this week. The new shop will deal with sewing bridal attire and alterations, and will also include fresh flowers and silk arrangements. As a mother of five daughters, she has sewn all of the bridesmaids dresses and many other formals

Dick Berryman of Clark-Berryman Funeral Home is pictured outside his Elwood facility. Many improvements have been made to the interior of the building and Berryman plans either more extensive remodeling or construction of a new funeral home here in Elwood if a suitable location can be found.

The annual Christmas Cantata was presented Sunday at the Elwood Christian Church in conjunction with the United Methodist Church, and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. The group performed before a full house and sang with angelic voices a joyful reminder of Christ’s birth. The Cantata was dedicated to the memory of choir members who passed away in 1981, including Mrs. Walter Braun, Mrs. Naomi Fong, Mrs. Lydia Hablitzel, and Mrs. Maynard Stoll.

The bell tower at the Methodist Church was dedicated Sunday and bears a bronze plaque in honor of Andy Christensen, Elwood citizen and church member.

Cooperating with the Elwood Chamber of Commerce in the holiday decorating and lighting contest is the Nebraska Public Power District. Cash prizes will be awarded to three places in two divisions, Religions, and Other. First prize $25; Second $15 and Third $5. Get your entry blank now and get to work on this project that will enhance the whole countryside during this Yule Season.
