Wreaths Across America celebrated at the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge
Six members of the Cambridge High School National Honor Society joined Cambridge’s American Legion Auxiliary and American Legion on Saturday, December 19, to honor our veterans at the Wreaths Across America ceremony at Fairview Cemetery. About 4o members of the community attended the ceremony, in which the National Honor Society led the Pledge of Allegiance. The American Legion presented the Colors and Arms; the Legion Auxiliary laid a Wreath for all veterans at the war memorial; and Megan tenBensel played Taps. NHS Members who attended were: Autumn Detering, Chloe Besler, Ian Tomlin, Ethan Sides, Megan tenBensel and Ali Webb.
This was the first year for Cambridge to join this national movement, and 36 wreaths were purchased and distributed.
The Cambridge American Legion Auxiliary has plans to expand the effort in 2021, gathering sponsorship from area businesses and individuals. If you drive through Fairview Cemetery, you will notice the beautiful balsam wreaths with large red bows on the headstones of our veterans. It is not too early to make plans for sponsoring Wreaths Across America for the coming year. Inquiries can be made to Sondra at 308-697-3493 or Marlene at 308-349-4361.
