The Elwood Public Schools Board of Education met on Monday, April 13th, 2026. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. Ryan Shutts was absent and all other board members were present. There was no public comment. The agenda and minutes from the March 9th and March 17th, 2026 meetings were approved. The board approved the general financial report and activity financial report. Monthly bills discussed included fuel expenses at the Red Barn, a catered breakfast for the National Honor Society ceremony, school supplies for the upcoming school year, and food supplies through the nutrition fund.

The Village of Bartley will be celebrating 140 years early this summer. A historical talk will be given at the Bartley Library on May 3, 2026 at 2:00PM. Historian Kevin Mc-Gregor will present a program of history about Bartley and Red Willow County. Kevin is the grandson of Bill and Ruth Teter. Bill had a drug store and pharmacy in Bartley starting in the 1920’s . After Bill’s untimely passing in 1970, Ruth kept the store going until 1986. Kevin will be joined by his cousin Steve Teter, grandson of Bill and Ruth.

A team of high school artists from Norton claimed the team title Friday at McCook Community College’s 51st annual Paint-In Competition. Also the results of the Paint-In exhibition were announced and McCook High School’s Hanna Huff received this year’s “Best of Show” award.

Arapahoe had 10 students attend Invention Convention at the Holdrege Prairie Museum recently. The 6th grade team of Emma Houser and Neligh Robinson earned 3rd place in their circle with their invention of The Broom Buddy. Molly Leising and Emeri Harrell, 6th graders, earned 1st place in their circle with the invention The Sticker Picker. Molly and Emeri won the Overall Award for 6th grade also!

Jury trial cancelled as Brooks, State reach plea agreement

BEAVER CITY - Just a week before Paul D. “Doug” Brooks, age 67 of Arapahoe, was to be tried before a jury on two counts of First Degree Sexual Assault and a third count of Sexual Assault of a Child, he and prosecutors from the State Attorney General’s Office reached a plea agreement.

Arapahoe Consolidating Bus Routes

ARAPAHOE – During the monthly meeting on April 13, the Arapahoe school board discussed ways to streamline their budget for the upcoming school year. In order to be more cost efficient, the board took two action on two agenda items: Last semester the board voted to eliminate the route within the Arapahoe city limits, leaving the district with five bus routes.
