SV Board approves budget

Body
Budget and tax asking hearings were held immediately before the Southern Valley Board of Education meeting on Monday, September 12 at 7:30 pm. Superintendent Bryce Jorgenson went over the budget during the hearing. He said compared to the 20-21 budget that the general fund, sped and wages are up, but the depreciation fund is down. He said they may have to adjust the activity fund later in the year as they spent $90,000 more last year than the year before (some of that was due to Covid). He said they are going to have to “tighten their belts a little there”, and they did buy a lot of new things last year including the HUDL camera upgrades. Activity Director Ashely Blickenstaff also said that the prices she had quoted in the spring are not the prices they are getting now as they have risen. The building fund is sitting lower as they spent quite a bit on the bus barn and new playground. The overall budget is down from the previous year. Budgeted in 21-22 was $12,024,931.01. Budgeted for 22 – 23 is $11,576,614.24.

Body
The Cambridge School Board met in regular session on Monday, September 12, 2022. The Board started the evening with a work session at 5:00 pm. At 7:00 pm, they called the Budget and the Tax Levy Hearing to order. There were no public comments. The regular meeting was then called to order. There was no public comment and the board approved the agenda and the minutes from the August 8, 2022 and August 30, 2022 meetings. In the Treasurer’s report, Superintendent Greg Shepard commented said the total general fund is up from the previous few years. Shepard said he plans to “toe the line” with the budget because there is a possibility of losing funds in the next year. The Building fund is lower than it has been in the past few years and Shepard reminded the Board that additional funds would be deposited in the Special Building Fund with the 20222023 tax levy asking. The Board then approved both the General Fund Claims and the Special Building Fund Claims.
