The Cambridge Lions hosted an appreciation dinner at the Cross Creek Golf Course on February 28 with guests from the Holbrook and Bartley Lions Clubs. The clubs celebrated a job well done during the recent Lions Christmas Project that involves all three clubs and surrounding communities and also discussed upcoming chapter events such as the Holbrook Lions Consignment Auction. (Right) Lions District Governor, John Rundel, was an honored guest and presented Vicky Brown, Cambridge Lions President, with an award for membership growth earned by the Cambridge club. Kezie’s Kids, Day & Night Care is now open for business. Mackenzie Gonzales, of McCook is now a licensed childcare provider. Kezie’s Kids has the capacity to care for eight children in total and currently is serving three children and their families.

Beaver City Council discusses past-due utilities

BEAVER CITY – The city council held its regular meeting on March 7, 2022, and approved Will and Sabrina Speth’s request for a T-Ball team for kids. The council also approved three building permits: Karen Hardenbrook’s deck expansion request at 608 10 th St., and two requests made by JR Laborie on behalf of Laborie Land Works, LLC.
Construction of Beaver City’s new water tower began February 15 and wrapped up last Friday. It took approximately two weeks to construct the tower and another week of work to the inside of the structure, which will be painted in April. The new water tower is part of a multimillion water project for the City that should be completed in June.

Veterans Memorial planned for Holbrook

Wayne Sayer, family formerly of Holbrook but now lives in Idaho, recently contacted Kathy Cobb about the possibility of a Veterans Memorial in Village Park for his brother Terry who was killed in Vietnam. Cobb liked the idea of honoring past, present and future veterans and ran with it. She received her first donations from Sayer and an another for a 20x20 concrete pad for the memorial.

Wintor storm forecast to blast region with 5-10 inches of snow

The National WEather Service had issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of southwest Nebraska and much of South Central Nebraska as a winter storm was forecast to strike the region Wednesday. Forecasts called for 5-10 inches of snow throughout Frontier, Red Willow, Furnas, Gosper and Harlan counties with blustery winds and frigid temperatures on the back end of the precipitation, pushing wind chills Wednesday night and Thursday night below zero.
