Harlan County 4-Hers meet

Body
Photo at right - On February 20, 2022 the Ragan Wranglers 4-H Club hosted a county wide 4-H meeting in Tyler and Jill Schmidt’s barn. 4-H’ers in attendance recited the pledge of allegiance, the 4-H pledge, discussed parliamentary procedure and Mike Miller provided a lesson on woodworking safety. To end the day, each 4-H’er constructed a pallet picture frame, which they encouraged to enter at fair time. Photo Credit: Tyler Schmidt Top photo - Harlan County 4-Hers in attendance at 4-H meeting

County Poor Farm

Body
I remember growing up on our family farm just north and east of Beaver City hearing my mother state that she hoped that we didn't end up on the poor farm. I didn't know why she would say that. I thought that I had it pretty good. However, my two older brothers and older sister might not agree. They used to complain about taking sugar and cream sandwiches in their lunch pails to the country school in Hollinger when others had meat sandwiches. They would ride their horses three miles to school. You can imagine what those sandwiches might have looked like at lunch time!

The weatherman promised a little snow for last week. If you watched really hard, at the right moment, you might have seen a tiny flake or two. Let’s hope he does better at delivering on this week’s forecast. A nice inch of rain would be perfect.
Roger McGraw’s hay bale snowman is one of only a few snowmen this area has seen this year. Mr. Snowman is sitting on the corner of Roads 709 and 404 northeast of Lebanon.
