Delta Variant Identified in Southwest Nebraska

Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) was notified that the Delta COVID-19 variant has been detected in the nine-county health district. This highly contagious strain was first detected in India and has now made its way into the United States and Nebraska. This strain is being carefully monitored by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the CDC because it is more easily spread than the original COVID-19 strain seen at the beginning of the pandemic. This strain has also been affecting children in greater numbers.

Quinn found guilty of 13 felonies including sex trafficking

BEAVER CITY - After two days of jury selection, seven days of testimony five hours of deliberation, a Furnas County jury of 10 men and two women found Oxford’s Billy Quinn guilty of 13 felonies, including three counts of sexual assault of a child, two counts of sex trafficking of a minor and two counts of manufacturing child pornography.
Surrounded by his defense attorneys, Oxford’s Billy Quinn hears the verdict from a two-week jury trial, where he was convicted of 13 of 14 felony counts.

Prairie Pioneer Days to be held this weekend

The time for Prairie Pioneer Days has finally come! On July 2nd and July 3rd, come celebrate the 2021 Prairie Pioneer Days in Arapahoe. The excitement starts with the Health Fair at the Ella Missing Community Center from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.. The Quilt Show at Wagner’s Quilts & Conversations will follow from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. Things will start to pick up pace with Music Bingo from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m at Tornado Alley’s Sandbar. Hungry? The Free Hamburger Meal will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Arapahoe City Park and end at 6:30 p.m.. Eat fast, because the Dennis Monter Memorial Trap Shoot will kick off at 6:00 p.m. in the Izaak Walton League Building. Feeling lucky? From 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. the KRVN 70th Anniversary Giveaway Truck will be brought out. And finally, to end the first day, the Street Dance featuring Victory Underground will boogey from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Locust St. just north of Ella Missing Community Center. But don’t party too hard, because the fun has just begun!

CAMBRIDGE - Much to the chagrin of locals, ticks have made their presence known this month. Even the publisher of this paper was not exempt as he and his sons fell prey to the infamous “blood feeders” while doing routine chores, prompting him to commission this article.

BEAVER CITY – The regular City Council meeting was held on June 21, 2021, with all six Council Members—Quinn Barnas, Kevin Harper, Chris Joppa, Roger Powell, Russell Rickert, and Becky Robinson present and Mayor Leighton Schmidt presiding. Others in attendance were Teresa Youngquist (Clerk), Grant Jorgensen (Utility Superintendent), Mike Kelly (Mike’s Auto Repair), Aubree Warner, Kathy Jorgensen (Beaver City Swimming Pool), Brad Wessels, and Guyla Mills (Valley Voice).
