Imagine flying fabric of many colors, and patterns, the giggles of youth and chattering sewing machines. This is what memories are made of. Tuesday, June 15th at this year’s 4-H sewing Camp at the Ag Center. Youth from Harlan and Furnas counties were instructed by Elaine Redfern and a multitude of skilled volunteers in completing two projects eligible for fair. In the morning, Mrs. Redfern and the skilled volunteers from both Harlan and Furnas Counties helped youth create beautiful stripe pillows. During lunch, a modeling workshop was given by Extension Assistant Marcy DeJonge with the expertise of Furnas County 4-H model, Haiden Garey who shared her experiences that she has learned throughout her 4-H modeling career. In the afternoon, the group constructed sleep pants. The Extension Office wishes to express the upmost appreciation and thanks to the Alma Public Schools and Cambridge Public Schools for the use of their sewing machines. And we know we couldn’t pull of such an event without the volunteers that graciously give of their time, skills and also equipment. These communities in Harlan and Furnas counties are truly great.
