Southwest School Board approves iPad purchase

The Southwest Board of Education met for their June 16th meeting in the high school library. After calling the meeting to order at 7:30 pm, the board excused absent members John O’Dea and Derek Meyers. The board then approved Old Business items before moving onto necessary policy changes.

The 35th Annual Medicine Creek Fishing Tournament held in memory of John Owens was June 7th and 8th. Registration was at Mill Park in Curtis, NE. In the Set Line division-3 teams: First place went to Brohdy Wood and Tye Stanton 100 lbs. and Second place went to Stacie Owens and Connie Elson 90 lbs. 3 oz. Biggest Catfish-30 lbs. 1 oz. - Stacie-Connie, Total 279 lbs. 5 oz. caught. In the Rod & Reel Division-14 teams: First place went to Kaden & Kamreyn Bonini 86 lbs. Second place was Landyn & Easton Gilmore 57 lbs. 8 oz. Biggest Catfish-9 lbs. 10 oz. Dahlton Wood & Jacob Emslander. Total: lbs Caught 406 lbs. 12 oz.

Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department reminds you to protect yourself against West Nile Virus (WNV) by taking steps to prevent mosquito bites. Over 50 cases of WNV have been reported in southwest Nebraska since 2012, and Nebraska continues to have one of the highest rates of West Nile in the nation.

Burke named Curtis Citizen of the Year

CURTIS – Doris Burke was surprised to be honored with the Citizen of the Year Award during the Community Center’s annual banquet/fundraiser on Friday evening. Burke says she was shocked when Mayor Brad Welch announced her name as this year’s recipient.
