“Ben” Burton-Furnas County’s First Permanent Settler

The Republican River Valley of southwest Nebraska, prior to the early-1870s, was a great buffalo range with bands of Native Americans roaming the plains following the herds. Change would come quickly to this area, and “Ben” Burton was part of the transition.
The historical marker for Burton’s Bend as its set in Holbrook’s park on Highway 6/34.

It’s raining!!! After receiving .60” Monday night/Tuesday morning, The Hill is getting another nice slow shower. Scrap tire cleanup events are organized by the applicants who received grant funds from NDEE’s Waste Reduction & Recycling Incentive Grant Program. Scrap tire cleanup events are organized by the applicants who reeived grant funds. In total, NDEE funded 21 scrap tire cleanup events across 28 counties in Nebraska. Steve Hall (Frontier County Commissioner) said they collected approximately 600 tires for the event.

Jason Renze graduates from u.S. Air Force Academy

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — June 3, 2025 Jason Renze, a 2025 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and native of Madrid, Iowa, received his Bachelor of Science degree in Astronautical Engineering and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force during ceremonies held May 29 at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs.
