CHARLEEN M. BENNETT
A Memorial Service and Inurnment for Charleen M. Bennett was held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Edison Christian Church in Edison, Nebraska with Pastor Kirk Einspahr officiating. A private inurnment of Charleen, Charles and Kathleen will be held prior to the service at the Edison Cemetery in Edison, Nebraska.
Charleen Mae Bennett, 90 years of age, of McCook, Nebraska, formerly of Edison, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska. Charleen was born on July 27, 1930, at Edison, the youngest of three children born to Charles M. and Mae (Osborn) Watts. Charleen received her primary education from Gosper Country School and then attended Edison High School, graduating with the class of 1947.
On August 12, 1949, Charleen was united in marriage to William Bennett at her parent’s house in Edison. The couple began to make their home in Edison. With William’s job at the Bureau of Reclamations, the couple made their home in many towns including: Glendo, Wyoming; Colobran, Colorado; Cheyenne, Wyoming; Fontenelle, Wyoming; and Leadville, Colorado. In 1979, following William’s retirement, the couple began to make their home in Edison again. God blessed this union with two sons: Charles and Shane. Charleen worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the old Oxford Hospital and the Oxford sale barn in Oxford, Nebraska and later, worked in the cafeteria at Southern Valley High School. While living in McCook, Charleen loved going to the YMCA Aquatic classes with her friends.
In her free time, Charleen enjoyed going on bus tours around the country to see shows and concerts. She was a member of the Christian Church of Edison and involved with the ladies aid, serving many funeral receptions.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William in 1987; son and daughter-in-law: Charles and Kathleen; brother, Thaddus Watts; sister-in-law, Alice Watts; brother-in-law, Ivan Hunt; five nephews; one niece and one great-niece, Rebecca Watts in 1993.
Charleen is survived by her son, Shane Bennett and his wife, Robin of rural Maywood, Nebraska; one grandson, and “apple of her eye,” William Charles “Billy” Bennett of Maywood; one sister: Shirley Hunt of Lincoln, Nebraska; two nieces: Joann Schmidt of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Anita Karl and husband, Dale of Cheyenne; two first cousins: John Bard of Laramie, Wyoming; and Gerald Watts of Billings, Montana; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family has honored Charleen’s wish for cremation. There was no visitation or memorial book signing.
A memorial has been established in Charleen’s honor and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
