A memorial service for Dorothy A. Greening was held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr. officiating.

Inurnment followed at the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County, Nebraska.

Dorothy Ann Greening, 99 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege. Dorothy was born on December 9, 1923, in Beaver City, Nebraska, to Frank Dean and Elizabeth Sarah (Foss) Bonser.

She received her education from Beaver City Public Schools until her senior year then, moved to Holdrege and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1942.

On January 6, 1946, she was united in marriage to William Orra Greening in Olathe, Kansas. The couple made their home in Omaha, Nebraska for a short time and Dorothy worked as a cashier at a Safeway Store, until 1986. They then moved to Pinecliff, Colorado, until 1988, where she was employed at the Eldora Ski Area as a cook and in child care.

She was preceded in death by Orra on their 30th wedding anniversary, January 6, 1976.

In 1988, Dorothy began to make her home back in Holdrege, to care for her mother at Methodist Homes. In 2013, Dorothy began to make her home at the Christian Homes Care Community.

Dorothy enjoyed reading, watching TV, and sending inspirational cards to church members for their birthdays and sometimes just to uplift their spirit. She was an avid seamstress, a good listener, and always had a positive outlook on life.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, serving as a Deacon, and the Nederland, Colorado Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. Dorothy loved her church and church family. She will be remembered by her family as, “Aunt Dode”.

Besides her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sisters: Carol Broberg, and husband, Dean; M. Elinor Lofquist and her husband, Clyde; Frances Capps; and Helen Hall and her husband, Carl; brother, William D. Bonser and his wife, Marian.

Dorothy leaves to celebrate her life, a host of nieces and nephews; other relatives; stepgrandchildren; and many friends.

There was no visitation or memorial book signing. The family is honoring her wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in Dorothy’s honor, and kindly suggested to the First Presbyterian Church of Holdrege.
