Evelyn Mae (Brandt) David, June 14, 1919-June 22, 2025 On June 22, 2025, Evelyn Mae Brandt David passed away in Coos Bay, Oregon. She was 106 years and one week.
Evelyn was born June 14, 1919, in Freedom, NE to Henry Francis Brandt and Emma Kuhlman Brandt. Evelyn grew up on a farm, helping with all the chores but preferring to work indoors when possible. She enjoyed being with her friends and attending weekend barn dances.
She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1937 and continued to work various jobs in Cambridge.
During WWII, Evelyn, her sister Helen, and mother Emma Brandt, moved to Omaha to work at the Glenn L. Martin Company at what is now Offutt Air Force Base.
The Martin Company produced B-26 Marauders and Boeing B-29 Superfortress aircraft for the defense of the US and allies during World War II.
Evelyn was an avid reader and met her husband, Habib (Hap) David, from an address label on a magazine.
The two became pen pals, after which Evelyn moved to Oregon where Hap lived and worked.
They were married July 1, 1946, in Carson City, NV. The couple had three children, Barbara Kay (1954) Michael Alexander (1956) and Margaret Sue (1956). They owned and operated David Restaurant Supply in Klamath Falls, OR until the business was sold in 1965.
Evelyn loved children and was integrally involved in caring for all six of her grandsons.
She also enjoyed, sewing, quilting, perusing cookbooks and enjoyed reading a wide variety of subjects from architectural design to science and history.
In 1997, Evelyn moved in with her daughter, Margaret’s family, thus, joining in many of the family adventures including moving to Summerville, SC, canoeing the Okefenokee Swamp, moving to Lakeview, Hines, and Klamath Falls, OR and settling in Winters, CA in 2016. She enjoyed cruising to Acapulco, taking a cooking class in Porta Vallarta, releasing baby sea turtles, watching the Great Eclipse of August 2017, friend gatherings at South Lake Tahoe, family reunions, camping at Big Sur, and most recently camping in Corvallis, OR, in summer of 2024.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Barbara McKiddy (Coos Bay, OR), Margaret David Bailey and son-in-law, Bruce Bailey (Winters, CA), grandsons Alexander David (Littleton, CO), Paul McKiddy, Robert and granddaughterin- law Michelle McKiddy (Coos Bay, OR) Harrison Bailey (Winters, CA), David Bailey and fiancé, Jamie Odle (Parker, CO); and great-grandchildren, Brenton and Marisa McKiddy (Coos Bay, OR).
Evelyn will be laid to rest at Klamath Memorial Park in Klamath Falls, OR alongside her beloved husband, Hap (January 27, 1975), stillborn daughter, Patricia Marie (December 24, 1952) and son, Michael Alexander (September 30, 2017).
