KENT MEYERS
Kent Meyers, 75, a longtime resident of McCook, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away Sunday evening, March 7, 2021 at Bryan Medical Center West Campus in Lincoln.
Alan Kent Meyers was born to Hugh and Helen (Loomis) Meyers on November 14, 1945 in McCook, Nebraska. He attended Red Willow Schools and graduated with the class of 1964. Kent furthered his education at McCook Community College and graduated with an associate degree.
Kent was united in marriage to Debra Koetter in Oberlin, Kansas on February 14, 1975. To this union five children would be born: Jason, Jeremy, Ryan, Derek, and Erin. The family lived on the farm five miles east of McCook. Kent’s senior yearbook quote sums up his life’s passion perfectly, “To live on a farm is my desire, to plow the fields and fix the fire.” Kent was happiest when busy on the farm surrounded by his crops and machinery, family and friends. In addition to the crops, he raised cattle and pigs. Kent was admittedly never much of a horseman but cared for them just the same because his children enjoyed them.
In addition to work, Kent enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren. He was a regular at local auctions and purchased many “treasures” over the years. There were no strangers to Kent Meyers, only people he had yet to meet. He loved animals, especially his dogs Amos and Boomer.
Kent was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Richard and Marilyn Koetter; son, Ryan Meyers; brother-in-law, Darin Koetter; and dog, Amos.
Survivors include his wife, Deb Meyers of McCook; sons: Jason (Staci) Meyers of McCook, Jeremy (Bambi) Meyers of Indianola, Derek (Natalie) Meyers of Indianola; daughter, Erin (Brent) Ruppert of Curtis; grandchildren: Jaci Meyers, Wyatt Meyers, Brekyn Ruppert, Darin Meyers, Bryer Ruppert, Eliza Meyers, and Weston Ruppert; a sister; his brothers and sisters-in-law; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, his good dog Boomer, and “many many very good friends.”
Visitation was held on Friday, March 12, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. — 6:00 p.m. and Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. The family was present to greet friends from 4:00 p.m. — 6:00 p.m.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. (CT), Monday morning, March 15, 2021 at HerrmannJones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Rev. Bruce Lester officiating. Interment followed services in Memorial Park Cemetery, McCook.
Memorials are suggested to the family of Kent Meyers for future designation. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com. Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
