A Funeral Service for Paul D. Englund will be held (today) Thursday, September 16, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr. and Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Burial rites will be conducted by the Masonic Lodge. Interment will follow at the Moses Hill Cemetery in rural Phelps County, Nebraska with Military Honors provided by the Martin-Horn American Legion Post #66 of Holdrege and the U.S. Army Funeral Honors Team.

Paul Dean Englund, 90 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away, Thursday morning, September 9, 2021, at the Mount Carmel Home Keens Memorial in Kearney, Nebraska. Paul was born in Holdrege, Nebraska on March 14, 1931, the third of seven children, born to Arthur and Judith (Carlson) Englund. He attended and graduated from the Holdrege High School with the class of 1951.
On May 22, 1952, Paul enlisted into the United States Army. He served during the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged on March 19, 1954. Following his discharge, he gratefully entered into the Army Reserves and served in this capacity for six years.
On March 9, 1956, Paul was united in marriage to the love of his life Shirley B. Beedle at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege and to this union three children were born: Denise Kay, David Lee and Durene Rae. The couple made their home in Holdrege. He was deeply involved in many organizations including: the Masons and Shriners and held many positions with the organizations.
Paul was a hard worker and always made sure his family was provided for. He enjoyed woodworking, working on their house, working in his lawn, reading, and traveling to the Black Hills for family vacations, Masonic, Shriner and Eastern Star activities, and Studebaker shows.
Paul and Shirley were members of the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege for over 65 years, and during this time they helped as custodians.
Besides his parents and wife on August 21, 2021, Paul was preceded in death by, two brothers: LaVern Englund; and LaMont Englund; two sisters, Inez McElvain and her husband, Bob; Grace Petersen and her husband Don; his brothers-in-law: Gerald Beedle and his wife, Elaine; and Derald Beedle and his wife, Maxine; and one sister-in-law, Donna Englund.
Paul is survived by, his three children: Denise Long of Holdrege; David Englund and his wife, Paula of Omaha, Nebraska; Durene Anderson/Marchioro and her husband, Thomas of Kearney/Kansas City, Missouri; 10 grandchildren: Matthew Long and his wife, Amanda of Lincoln, Nebraska; Tyler Long of Lincoln; Jared Long and his wife, Tatiana of Holdrege; Christopher Englund and his wife, Jess of Elkhorn, Nebraska; Preston Englund and his wife, Ashley of Hastings; Danielle Axtell and her husband, Erick of Axtell, Nebraska; Michael Anderson of Kearney; Nicholas Anderson of Arlington, Virginia; Joseph Anderson and his wife, Jaimee of Lincoln; Spencer Anderson of Lincoln; 11 great-grandchildren: Tray; Jackson; Barrett; Keaton; Parker; Hudson; Lucy; Rylee; Ella; Lincoln; Bentley; two brothers: James Englund and his wife, Edna of Holdrege and Dale Englund of San Jose, California; brothers and sisters-in-law: Dottie Paulson and her husband, Marvin of Holdrege; Dale Beedle and his wife, Judy of Arapahoe; Jean Englund of Holdrege; La-Donna Weismann and her husband, Max of Holdrege and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Paul’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
