Cambridge splits triangular at Cozad
COZAD - The Cambridge volleyball team took part in a triangular at Cozad last week with a chance to avenge an earlier loss to McCook and take on the host Haymakers as well.
The Trojans had no issues in dispatching Cozad in straight sets, but McCook handled Cambridge in straight sets, leaving the Trojans 1-1 on the night and 9-5 on the season.
Against the Haymakers, Cambridge rolled to a 25-10, 25-18 victory, its ninth of the year.
The Trojans dominated with offense, serving nine aces while hitting .222 as a team.
Autumn Deterding led the team with six kills while Jalen Kent added four and Jacey Kent and Schyler Hoberty each had three. Breelle Miller had 14 assists.
Clare Craig had three ace serves and Miller and Bailee Ahlemeyer each had two.
Defensively, Deterding and Hoberty each had two stuff blocks and Ahlemeyer had 10 digs while Jacey Kent added nine.
The offense was dormant against the Bison, who cruised to a 25-16, 25-15 sweep of the Trojans.
Cambridge hit just .027 and committed 14 hitting errors for the match while the Bison hit .206. The Trojans were held to just one ace serve as well.
Deterding led the offense with five kills while Jacey Kent and Hoberty each had four.
Defensively, the Trojans had three stuff blocks - one each from Kent, Deterding and Craig - and Ahlemeyer led the team with nine digs while Jalen Kent had eight and Carsyn Hanes had seven.
