DCS dismisses Cambridge from D1 playoffs
BENKELMAN - The Cambridge football team saw its season come to a swift close Thursday night in the opening round of the Class D1 Playoffs at Dundy County-Stratton.
Cambridge turned the ball over eight times and the Tigers made little waste of abundant opportunities, scoring 28 in the opening quarter and 38 more in the second quarter to roll away to a 66-8 victory.
The tRojans trailed 66-0 at the half and held the Tigers off the board after halftime, eventually scoring in the fourth quarter to avoid the shutout.
Running room was tough to come by as Cambridge netted 48 yards on 30 rushing attempts.
Zach McArthur ran for 33 yards to lead the team and Kohan Grindle added 16.
Cambridge threw for 118 yards as Carson Trompke completed four of 12 attempts for 113 yards. Grindle had four receptions for 100 yards, including a 59-yard touchdown late. Dahlton Wood added two receptions as well.
Defensively, Cambridge surrendered just 266 yards, but the Tigers worked with a short field much of the night.
Wyatt Ervin had 14 tackles for Cambridge and Will Taylor added eight. Hunter Perks had seven taackles and McArthur had a tackle for loss. CJ Fiene and Wood each recovered a fumble.
Cambrigde finished its season 4-5.
