BERTRAND - In similar fashion to a week two matchup with Blue Hill, the Southern Valley football team found itself in a large hole midway through the second of Friday’s contest at Bertrand.

But armed with the confidence of that comeback win in week two, the Eagles turned the trick once again.

Trailing 32-16 in the final minute of the third quarter, the Eagles flipped a switch and outscored the Vikings 20-0 over the game’s final 13 minutes, taking a 36-32 win to improve to 4-2 this season.

The game was tied at halftime after the Eagles missed an opportunity to take the lead shortly before halftime. Southern Valley was turned away after coming up short on fourth-and-one at the Bertrand 6-yard line.

The Vikings then controlled the third quarter, stacking scores to build a 32-16 lead.

Southern Valley then moved right down the field and scored on touchdown pass from Carter Bose to Brody Yant.

The Eagles got another score to pull within 32-28 early in the fourth, then got a stop and were prepared to take the lead, but turned the ball over. Bertrand returned the favor and Bose capped a short drive with a touchdown run to put the Eagles in front with 2:09 left.

Isaak McPhillamy then blew up the the final Vikings possession.

McPhillamy started the Bertrand sequence with a sack. The Vikings then fumbled the snap and dove on it for another loss before McPhillamy finished things up with a tackle for loss. Bertrand’s final desperation heave was incomplete.
