Warriors fall to Falcons, Roughriders
BARTLEY - The Arapahoe girls basketball team dropped a pair of contests last week as their comeback fell short against WilcoxHildreth and an second-half offensive drought was costly at Southwest.
Against the Falcons, Arapahoe trailed 22-14 at the half, then saw WilcoxHildreth surge in front by double-digits with a dominant third quarter.
Trailing 35-17 to the fourth, the Warriors nearly doubled their offensive output from the first three quarters, but it wasn’t enough as they dropped a 42-31 decision.
Arapahoe shot just 23 percent from the field, but Hope Koller provided a bright spot in the offense, scoring 17 points to lead the team. Berkley Warner added six.
Koller grabbed a teamhigh seven rebounds and Warner, Racy Roskop and Emerson Swanson each pulled down six. Roskop had four assists and Warner had three. Roskop, Warner and Hilary Downey each grabbed two steals.
Friday, Arapahoe emerged from a 4-4 first quarter tie to a 17-14 halftime lead over Southwest.
But the shots betrayed the Warriors after halftime as they managed just 13 points in the second half and saw the Roughriders move in front in the fourth en route to a 34-30 victory.
Arapahoe shot just 28 percent from the field, which was better than Southwest’s 23 percent, but Arapahoe struggled at the charity stripe, making just 6 of 17 attempts. Southwest finished 12-for-16 at the line, a major difference down the stretch.
Gentry Warner scored 11 to lead the Warriors while Koller added eight points and had nine rebounds.
Downey grabbed five boards and Swanson and Berkley Warner each had two assists. Warner led the team with three steals, while Swanson, Gentry Warner and Koller each had two.
Arapahoe is next in action Monday and Tuesday as they host the Bob Braithwait Holiday Tournament.
The girls will open against Blue Hill at 5:30 p.m. Monday while the boys will battle the Bobcats at 7:15 p.m.
