MCCOOK - After downing Bertrand, then getting by a scrappy Arapahoe team Thursday, RPAC East twoseed Cambridge had to slay a couple monsters that have haunted the Trojans in the annual RPAC Volleyball Tournament for a while.

MCCOOK - The two-time defending league champion Southwest volleyball team wasn’t able to achieve a threepeat, but after a frustrating loss to Cambridge in Monday’s semifinals, the Roughriders bounced back with a sweep of Maywood-Hayes Center in Tuesday’s consolation match to finish third.

CAMBRIDGE - In a race not only to qualify for the Class D State Cross Country meet, but also to beat an impending thunderstorm, six area individuals medaled and the Cambridge girls finished second at Thursday’s District D-5 Meet in Cambridge.

Medicine Valley’s football team scored a season-high 69 points Friday night on its way to a thirty-point victory. The Raiders dug themselves in a 0-12 hole to start the game, but found their rhythm midway through the first quarter.

Maywood/Hayes Center’s football team closed out its season with a bang, picking up a win at Bertrand 32-30. The game got off to a dire start with Bertrand returning the opening kickoff 55 yards for a touchdown then pinning MHC on its own one-yard line for its first offensive possession.

CAMBRIDGE - In Thursday’s opening round of RPAC Volleyball Tournament action, the top seeds at the Cambridge site both emerged from the first round with sweeps before second-seeded Cambridge took down thirdseeded Arapahoe in four sets.

The Maywood/Hayes Center volleyball team rolled into the RPAC tournament semifinals on a seven-match winning streak, but saw its hopes of a conference championship dashed Monday night in a 3-1 loss to West No. 1 seed Dundy County Stratton.

BARTLEY - RPAC East top seed Southwest rolled to an opening round win against eighth-seeded Medicine Valley, then survived a fight with fourth-seeded Alma to advance from Thursday’s first round matches at Southwest.
