BENKELMAN - The Arapahoe football team struggled to generate offense and get its defense off the field in its road trip to D1 No. 2 Dundy County-Stratton Friday.
LOOMIS - Loomis wasted little time in flexing its strengths in Friday’s district tilt with Cambridge. The Wolves scored the first four times they possessed the football and jumped Cambridge in the opening quarter, taking a 32-6 lead 10 minutes in.
SOUTHERN VALLEY The Southern Valley football team struggled to slow Alma’s passing attack and fell in a hole too deep to climb from in a 42-14 loss Friday night. The Eagles rushed for 322 yards in the contest and moved the football well at times, but were unable to keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard, particularly in the first half as Alma threw for 268 yards and scored four first-half touchdowns to build a 26-6 lead at the break.
SUTHERLAND - Saturday’s Sutherland Invite featured a great deal of action that was all a set up for an expected championship match of Class D1 No. 1 Overton vs D1 No.
KEARNEY - The UNK Cross Country Invite annually provides teams and runners with an opportunity to essentially preview the State Meet - the event is run on the State course with a field even more crowded than the State event.
BARTLEY - In a top 10 district showdown of unbeatens, the Wallace Wildcats leaned on their rushing game and a couple Southwest miscues to build a 24-14 lead at the half Friday night. But he who laughs last laughs best.
ARAPAHOE - A highly competitive team race came down to a point on the girls side and 12 area athletes earned medals at the Arapahoe cross country meet Thursday. Cambridge edged Maywood-Hayes Center by a point, 29-30, for the girls team title and Hi-Line was third with 34 points.
CAMBRIDGE - Facing its biggest challenge to date this season, the Cambridge football team again passed with flying colors Thursday night, dealing Bertrand its first loss of the season while improving to 4-0 with a 56-6 victory.
BIG SPRINGS - Playing on a week that was supposed to be a “bye” week, the Southwest football team made the most of its opportunity and buried South Platte, 59-8 on the road Thursday night. Not originally scheduled, Southwest picked up the game at South Platte when its first game of the season was cancelled by Heartland Lutheran.
ELWOOD - The Hi-Line football team led secondranked Dundy County-Stratton at halftime and was within four late in the third quarter, but their upset bid came up short in a 32-14 defeat Friday night in Elwood.
