By NCTA News CURTIS, Neb. — Cheyanne Wood was supposed to go to her cousin’s baby shower that morning. Instead, she found herself standing at her kitchen sink, feeling something she couldn’t explain. “I could feel my blood pressure rising… and then it was like sparks went off in my brain.” Within seconds, the sensation intensified.

Benjamin Franklin famously wrote “in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” Franklin was a legendary intellect, and it’s hard to overstate the impact he had. But I’d suggest an addition to that particular quote, one with which I suspect he’d agree.

Last week, I wrote about my team’s work to secure federal tax dollars Nebraskans already sent to Washington to improve the Central Nebraska Regional Airport in Grand Island. This week, I want to update you on my recent visit to Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill and share my team’s efforts to invest federal tax dollars there as well.

Tax Day is nearly here. This tax season, the Working Families Tax Cuts are delivering for Nebraskans and putting more money in your pocket. Recently, I’ve been travelling the state to share good news about this year’s tax returns. Workers will keep more of their income. Families will have more money to put toward groceries. Farmers and ranchers will be able to grow and reinvest. CBS News reports that the average tax refund will increase by about $1,000 per filer. This tax season will be better for hard-working Nebraskans.

In my role as a hospitalist, I am always happy when a patient is healthy enough to be discharged. A resounding majority of people want to go back to their home after they leave the hospital.

This past week, I had the pleasure of visiting Grand Island for an exciting occasion: the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Central Nebraska Regional Airport’s new Snow Removal Equipment Building. It was a particularly special event to me because I fought to secure $3.15 million for this project in the Fiscal Year 2024 government funding bills.

In the face of fire, Nebraskans – once again – proved our grit and came together to protect life, property, and livestock. After a dry winter, high temperatures, and relentless winds created a dangerous recipe for wildfires, our state has finally seen some badly needed rain.

North Platte, Nebraska (April 13, 2026) – Nebraska Extension is offering a Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) and Beef Quality Assurance Transportation (BQAT) training on April 13, 2026 in North Platte at West Central Research and Extension Center. The event begins at 4:00 pm CT. Anyone involved in raising or handling cattle is encouraged to attend. Funded by the Beef Checkoff, the BQA program guides producers toward continuous improvement using science-based production practices that assure cattle well-being, beef quality and safety.
