It was a slow week for the Maywood/Hayes Center girls basketball team, but the Wolves provided plenty of excitement in their Jan. 13 win over Maxwell.

The Hi-Line and Arapahoe basketball teams split their girls and boys basketball doubleheader Friday with the Warriors rolling away to a 7129 victory in the girls contest and the Bulls coasting to a 5528 win over Arapahoe in the boys game.

Playing in front of its home fans, the Medicine Valley boys basketball team went 1-1 last week, dropping a contest with Cambridge Jan. 13 before taking a win over Mullen Friday.

It was a brutal week for the Medicine Valley girls basketball team. The Raiders faced some of Class D2’s best in the point standings, No. 1 Dundy County Stratton, No. 6 Cambridge and No. 8 Mullen. Cambridge and DCS are also possible opponents in Med. Valley’s D2-9 subdistrict.

While it wasn’t always smooth sailing, the Cambridge boys and girls basketball teams each swept the weekend to clinch three-seeds in the upcoming RPAC Basketball tournaments. The girls team rolled past Sutherland Friday, 63-26, then had its hands full with Maxwell until a strong second half produced a 52-41 victory.

BERTRAND - The Republican Plains Activities Conference will host the boys wrestling championships Saturday at Bertrand High School. Twenty-two state-rated wrestlers will be in contention across 14 weight classes to capture an individual conference championship while hoping to push their team to a conference crown.

The 2026 Republican Plains Activities Conference basketball championships tip off this weekend with a number of local teams riding a wave of momentum into tournament play. In the East, both the Arapahoe and Cambridge girls squads are on winning tears of late as the Warriors earned the two-seed with a 13-2 record.

NORFOLK - The Nebraska State Wrestling Coaches Association is hosting the Nebraska Girls State Duals Invite on Friday at the YMVA Fieldhouse in Norfolk. The event is separated for Class A and Class B with a 16-team bracketed format for each division.

KEARNEY - A scaldinghot shooting performance in the opening quarter pushed Arapahoe to a huge lead they had no trouble defending in rolling to a 69-49 victory over Mullen Saturday morning at the Girls Basketball Showcase in Kearney.
