In a battle of the D1-11 subdistrict leaders, Arapahoe’s girls basketball team beat Maywood/Hayes Center in the consolation game of the RPAC tournament. MHC still holds the right to host the subdistrict Feb.

ARAPAHOE - Arapahoe finished a half-point short of the crown at its home invite Saturday, the annual Darrell Barnes Invite. Hitchcock County took the team title with 115 points while Arapahoe finished second with 114.5.

Area girls wrestling teams will compete at district tournaments this weekend in hopes of qualifying for the Class B State Tournament in Omaha. Hi-Line and Southwest will travel to Ogallala for the District B-4 Tournament, which begins Friday afternoon and continues Saturday morning.

With a Jan. 27 RPAC tournament loss to Hitchcock County knocking them out of the winners bracket, the Maywood/Hayes Center boys basketball team ended its tournament appearance against Dundy County Stratton Friday in Wallace Friday.

SOUTHERN VALLEY - Through two rounds of the Girls RPAC Basketball Tournament, the top two seeds emerged into Thursday’s semifinal from both the East and West as Alma and Arapahoe will square off in the East semifinal at Southwest Thursday while Dundy County Stratton and Maywood/Hayes Center will meet in the West semifinal Thursday at Wallace.

BERTRAND - Local athletes earned 26 medals and three area teams finished in the top four of the team standings at the RPAC Wrestling Tournament Saturday in Bertrand. Arapahoe, Southern Valley and Cambridge each chased the team title, but came up short as Hitchcock County captured the crown with 132.5 team points.

Area boys hoops teams saw their dreams of an RPAC Championship come to a close Tuesday as three area teams dropped their quarterfinal matchups. The Maywood/Hayes Center boys basketball team fell short of a Saturday appearance in the RPAC tournament after a loss to Hitchcock County Tuesday night.

NORFOLK - The Southwest girls wrestlign team went 2-2 to take 11th place at the NSWCA Girls State Duals Invite in Norfolk Friday. The Roughriders fell to Tekamah-Herman in the opener, took down Thayer Central in the second round, dropped a match to Pierce in consolations, then defeated Auburn for 11th place.

HEBRON - The Southern Valley/Arapahoe and Southwest girls wrestling teams finished first and second at the 19-team Thayer Central Invite Thursday. The eagles scored 115 team points to take the title while Southwest scored 108 to edge Wilber-Clatonia (107) for runnerup honors.
