PLEASANTON - The Arapahoe boys wrestling team returned from the holiday break to finish fifth out of 25 teams at the Pleasanton Invite Saturday. Five Warriors medaled, led by Briggs Hill, who remained unbeaten with a firstplace finish at 144 pounds.

But the Trojans got a pair of timely threes from Aspen Webb and were sturdy at the free throw line, knocking down 13 of 18 for the game, to hold off the Wolves by two. Loomis had the ball with a chance to tie twice in the final 30 seconds, but never got a shot off.

Southern Valley completes 3-0 week before holiday break

SOUTHERN VALLEY - The Southern Valley girls basketball team enjoyed a strong week to get back to .500 prior to the holiday break. The Eagles won three games in five days, taking down Norton, 43-40, on the road last Tuesday, before earning a pair of victories at home, 38-28 over Ravenna Thursday and 53-41 over Loomis Saturday.

GIBBON - The Hi-Line boys basketball team posted back-to-back wins over Franklin and Gibbon to close the pre-holiday portion of its schedule at 5-2. The Bulls dominated Franklin, 65-25, on Thursday before hitting the road for a 55-43 victory Friday.

CAMBRIDGE - The Arapahoe boys wrestling team took the team title and nine area athletes medaled in the boys division of the Fran Jorgensen Invite Saturday in Cambridge. The Warriors scored 139 points and had six medalists, led by champions Gavin Andrews at 106 pounds and Briggs Hill at 144 pounds.

Riders sweep past Warriors

ARAPAHOE - The Southwest boys and girls basketball teams earned a sweep of Friday’s doubleheader with Arapahoe, winning the girls contest, 54-41, before taking a 65-36 victory in the boys contest. In the opener, Southwest used its defense to pull away after halftime as the Roughriders outscored the Warriors 27-17 in the final two quarters and Arapahoe shot just 28 percent for the game.
