90 Years Ago January 22, 1931 A Burlington engine climbed a switch in the Oxford yards. It not only tore up the tracks in bad shape but required a wrecker to get it back in place.

The Medicine Valley boys basketball team picked up a comfortable victory over HiLine Thursday, thanks to a big first half offensively. The Raiders jumped ahead 21-7 after a quarter and held a 40-13 lead at the break before the Bulls held their own in the second half in a 66-38 Raiders win.

Arapahoe girls fall to Med Valley, knock off Bertrand The seventh-seeded Arapahoe girls nearly pulled off the upset of the tournament Saturday when they held a double-digit lead on second-seeded Medicine Valley before falling 57-51 in overtime. The Warriors bounced back Tuesday with a dominant 52-34 consolation win over Bertrand.

Medicine Valley girls grind way to win over Bulls

The Medicine Valley girls basketball team played from in front and, while it had a hard time shaking loose from the Bulls, earned a victory over Hi-Line Thursday. The Raiders controlled the first and third quarters and broke even in the second to build a 39-3o lead through three quarters, then held on for a 51-44 victory, their eighth of the season.

Elaine L. Frank, age 88, of McCook died peacefully at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook on Saturday, January 23rd, 2021. She was born June 18th, 1932 to Harry E. Sr. and Opal (McCord) Smith in Cambridge, Nebraska. She grew up on the farm near Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1949. Elaine married Marvin L. Frank in Cambridge on March 4th, 1950 and to the union four children were born. She was employed by the McCook Clinic as a nurse and later as a receptionist until her retirement. Elaine was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and a longterm member of BPOE Does. She enjoyed her volunteer work with the Blood Mobile, Helping Hands Thrift Store, and organizing and helping with the church’s funeral dinners. Elaine also enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, sewing, and Nebraska football. She especially cherished the company of her children and grandchildren and taking care of the “Love of Her Life!”
