The family of Naomi Leising would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the friends and family who were there for us at her passing. Most of all, we want to thank those who called, traveled, provided various acts of kindness, sent cards, lifted us up in prayer, and gave flowers and memorials. Love is a memory never forgotten.

The Arapahoe City Council met for their regular meeting on Tuesday, February 20 at 7:30 pm. A public hearing for the one and six year plan was opened before moving into the council meeting. The plan must be submitted every year in order to fund the projects on the plan. None of the plans are set in stone, but the plan must still be submitted. Last year’s projects that were worked on were the main street and Landmark project. The six year plan has a lot of focus on the west side of the highway, milling and resurfacing.

The Cambridge City Council met in regular session on Monday, February 19, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. All Council members were present for the meeting. Visitors to the meeting included Amanda Huxoll and Chris Haveman, both of rural Holbrook, as well as Dustin Garrison from Garrison Law Office of Beatrice, Nebraska.

CURTIS - On Friday, Deputies from the Frontier County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 300 block of East 5th Street in Curtis in an effort to make contact with a subject who had a felony warrant.

HOLBROOK - The Holbrok Lions Club is preparing for their 51st annual consignment sale, scheduled for Saturday, April 6. You heard that right - 51st annual sale! The Club is accepting consignments of farm equipment, household goods and everything in between.

LINCOLN - United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced that Samantha Miller, 31, of Oxford, Nebraska, was sentenced Friday in federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska, for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl. Senior United States District Court Judge John M. Gerrard sentenced Miller to 60 months’ imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system. After Miller’s release from prison, she will begin a 5-year term of supervised release.

With the exception of a few days of “normal” February weather, we have been fortunate to enjoy some really nice not-so-normal-for-February days. Sure is nice to be able to go out with just a light jacket and not all bundled up in the insulated coveralls, stocking cap, heavy mittens, etc. But we do still worry about what all these above normal temps are going to do to our vegetation, i.e., the wheat in particular, the fruit trees, flowers, etc.
