MCCOOK – Copperstone Foods of McCook is expanding its business to include a Halalcertifi ed beef bacon plant in its Eustis facility. President Cal Siegfried says that the genesis of the project began when his company bought into Saddle Peak, a Bozeman, Montanabased company that produces halal-certified bacon in the small town of Howard, South Dakota.

The National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) and rural-focused organizations throughout the United States set aside the third Thursday of November to recognize NRHD. This annual event is an opportunity to celebrate the “Power of Rural” and honor the individuals and organizations dedicated to addressing the unique healthcare needs of nearly 61 million people living in rural America.

Bartley’s downtown Revitalization Project Well underway

BARLTLEY – Myer’s Construction has served as a contractor for the revitalization project. Joe Wamsley from Myer’s Construction attended the Village Board of Trustees meeting on November 14, 2023, to answer questions about the revitalization project. To preserve the finish, he advised trustees and city employees to only use sand on the new sidewalk for the first year rather than salt or any ice melting products.

Southwest Attends national FFA Convention

On November 1st, Twelve Southwest FFA members attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN. It was the 96th National Convention and Southwest was able to attend even though several members competed in state volleyball during its date. After driving all day Tuesday October 31st, Southwest was able to attend the National Career Show and Expo before the Opening Ceremony and 1st session on Wednesday of National. All 12 members enjoyed the experience of being among the 70,000 members in Indianapolis. On Tuesday the Chapter viewed the National FFA Center, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and sat down to a Chapter meal provided by a donor at Sullivan's Steakhouse.

Cambridge Board of Education approves $20,000 funding for FFA Beef Program

The Cambridge Board of Education met on Monday, November 13, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. All board members were present. After the Pledge of Allegiance, the Board approved both the agenda and the meeting minutes from the previous meeting. In the Treasurer’s report, Jarod Albers, Superintendent, reported that the school is looking pretty good in receipts. The Board approved the General Fund Claims. They then approved the Special Building Fund Claims. The Board also approved the QCPUF fund claims.

Arapahoe looks at nearing completion of downtown revitalization project

The Arapahoe City Council met on Tuesday, November 7 at 7:30 pm. They briefly discussed the wrap up of the downtown revitalization project. Jess Hurlburt of Olssons was in attendance and said they should start seeing some clean up. He also said the light poles would be up by the end of the week and be energized the following week. Mayor John Koller commented he is getting a lot of positive comments, especially as the light poles are going up.
