Elwood School District Takes Proactive Step to Save Lives

Since school districts throughout the country have experienced the presence of fentanyl on K-12 campuses, Superintendent Daren Hatch wants to be proactive and train the staff to administer NARCAN (Naloxone), a medication used for the emergency treatment of opioid overdose. The board adopted Policy #3051 (Opioid Overdose and Presentation and Response) during their regular board meeting on May 8, 2023. Vaping among high school students is on the rise and so are overdoses linked to fentanyl laced vape liquids. Here in the U.S. it is legally prescribed for pain, but fentanyl is also illegally manufactured and mixed with other drugs. Young people unknowingly purchase vapes laced with lethal doses of heroin or fentanyl, a synthetic opioid and central nervous system depressant that is 80 to 100 times stronger than morphine.

May 10, 2023 It’s Tuesday morning as I write this and I can report that it rained!!! Several gauges in The Valley showed three quarters of an inch while several on The Hill showed right at an inch. And we didn’t get any of the nasty hail the weatherman was warning about. We are thankful!!
